Events 2021 2022

At Katherine Semar we are passionate about reading and are always looking for ways to promote and encourage reading both at school and at home. 

Year 3 had a fantastic visit from “Vulpas the Barbarian” from Portals to the Past. The children learnt all about the Roman Invasion of Britain, handled Roman artifacts, took part in Gladiator battles and played Roman games.

Katherine Semar Early Years children enjoyed a wonderful visit to our local Waitrose. The children toured the store, stopping at the deli, the fish and meat counter and the fruit and veg section to learn about the food sold. They were also lucky enough to go behind the scenes and visit the huge...

The parents of Year 4 children were welcomed back into school this week for a set of Maths workshops. The parents looked at different approaches to learning times tables and spent time working with their children. The sessions finished by explaining the teaching journey from learning to count in 2s...

Year 3 launched their Radical Romans topic with a Roman Day.  Unfortunately, our Roman centurian who was supposed to be arriving today was unwell at the last minute.  But nothing beats Katherine Semar! 

On Wednesday our junior school children all enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch cooked by our fantastic kitchen team.  What a great Christmas lunch!

Year 1 had a fantastic time hosting their very own Toy Museum. We invited a few members of our school along to explain all about our toys. The children had a fantastic time and our visitors really enjoyed finding out lots of information about the toys.

On Tuesday ,the infant children enjoyed a Christmas Around the World Day.   

On Friday the junior school children enjoyed a Christmas party lunch with party food and crackers.  

On Wednesday 8th December, Year 3 carried out fish and prawn dissections as part of their Science learning.

Today in D.T., Year 4 constructed, tested and evaluated the shadufs they designed in previous lessons. 

Grey Falcons had two great sessions at Forest School this month. 

Flame Robins had the most beautiful sunny afternoon to make the most of the gorgeous autumnal woods this afternoon.  

Year 5 had a fantastic introduction to their learning about Ancient Greece on Tuesday 2nd November. 

Many congratulations to all the children who have achieved gold in our first Big Spell of the year. We are very proud of you.

This week we went into a very dark hall where there was a terrible thunderstorm at sea awaiting us. 

Year 1 had a brilliant land to their topic! We all became superheroes and jetted off to many mystical worlds to solve crimes and save the day.

Skylarks have had the most brilliant time at forest school over the past few weeks. We have absolutely loved getting muddy, using tools to create swords and creating our own superhero masks! 

Year 4 were lucky enough to speak to the author of Varjak Paw, SF Said.

This week the children in year 5 were very lucky to be able to take part in a school science engagement project in association with Darwin Tree of Life and Wellcome Sanger Institute.

Year 2 have been learning all about Antarctica and On Thursday 16th September they got to hear first hand what it’s like to go on an expedition there.

Girls from KSJ attended a Football Festival last week - as you can see from the photos they had great fun!

We slept well... although there was a little chatting slightly after hours. The weather has been great and after a hearty breakfast we cracked on with activity.
