May Day and Coronation Celebrations

On Friday 5th May Katherine Semar School held their annual May Day Celebration.   This consists of a May Day Procession led by the May Queen, the Green Man, his Page and two flower carriers from each class.

Once the procession has circled the playground, the Green Man crowns the May Queen with a circlet of flowers.  As three cheers ring out for the Queen, she takes her place on the dais with her attendants.  The children then provide entertainment for the May Queen.  This takes the form of Country Dancing from the Early Years and Year 1 and Maypole Dancing by Year 2.  This year we also included Coronation celebrations – the Junior children came to school wearing Red, White & Blue and the whole school came together to sing songs to celebrate the King being crowned.
