Orangutan Class River Trip
Orangutan class landed their Rivers topic by "Ducking down the Deben", tracking the river from source to mouth. We were fascinated by the changes in the river along its course. We measured the width of the river bed, depth of the water, flow rate and water quality. At each stop, we learnt about the ways the river was changing and the land use around the river and how this might affect the water and consequently wildlife. At Brandeston, we undertook "kick sampling" and found a huge range of aquatic creatures. We were amazed when we arrived at the mouth of the river at Bawdsey where the channel was wide and we could see huge container ships leaving the port of Felixstowe. A brilliant day and thank you to Charlie our guide from Suffolk Wildlife Trust.
