On 27th May, 2010, the Year 5 children participated in the Essex Schools’ Food and Farming Day. The event was held at Writtle College and provided opportunities for the children to develop a better understanding of where their food comes from and why the countryside around Essex looks the way it does.
During the day, the children explored different zones, each representing a key part of the food and farming story. The children particularly enjoyed the Livestock Zone where they were able to pet a variety of farm animals and to watch a sheep being sheared!
Within the Machinery Zone, the children were excited to be able to explore a variety of farm machinery and enjoyed exploring the labyrinth cut into the corn field.
The day was most enjoyable and certainly helped us all to have a better understanding of just how important farming is to Essex.
