On Wednesday 30th September, the Year 5 children visited Audley End House as part of their Topic work on the Victorians. To enhance their experience, the children dressed up in Victorian style costumes for the day – they looked fantastic!
During the visit, the children learnt about the types of jobs they may have had to do during the Victorian era. They were able to step into role and practise setting a table ready for a banquet. This involved the girls polishing the silver and arranging the flowers whilst the boys folded the napkins and arranged the cutlery! We all agreed that the girls had to work the hardest (well, nearly all agreed!)
When we toured the house, we were amazed at the beautiful decoration and the number of books in the library! We were allowed to visit the top floor of the house where the servants’ quarters were. The children agreed that they would definitely have preferred to be the Lord or Lady of the house!
The day was a huge success and we are all looking forward to continuing our Topic work back in school.
