Year One launched their Fur, Scales and Slime topic by being Pellet Detectives. They were presented with some pellets, and asked to think of questions such as, 'Which animal is this from?' 'How can we find out what's inside?'. They then dissected the pellet and were amazed to find skulls and other bones, as well as a lot of fur. This then led us to think that whichever animal made the pellet must eat other animals. The bones were from small rodents that come out at night, so we worked out that the hunter that made the pellet must also be nocturnal. After discounting a dinosaur or tiger (!) we eventually worked out that it was an owl pellet.
