On Monday the 11th March Year 3 had a Viking Day. All the children dressed up as people would in the Viking times. They entered a Viking village and gathered around the fire. The children were allowed to explore the village where they experienced activities such as candle making, pottery making, rope making, Viking writing with ink they made themselves. Several children were chosen to be Viking warriors and they were trained to protect the village from the invading Anglo Saxons. Everyone had to visit the wise woman who made a potion to heal them.
In the afternoon, the children had the opportunity to become real life archaeologists! They carefully brushed away soil to find objects and they recorded and described the objects. The children were shown how to categorise their findings just as a real archaeologist would.
