On Thursday 3rd March, 2011, the children at Katherine Semar Junior School joined children from all around the world in celebrating ‘World Book Day’. The day provides an opportunity for children to celebrate their love of reading and of books.
The children dressed up as characters from their favourite books - their costumes were fantastic! The highlight of the day, was a visit from Poet, Paul Cookson. Paul entertained the whole school in assembly and then led a poetry workshop for each year group.
After school, Paul was joined by comedienne and songwriter, Jenny Lockyer in performing a free concert for parents and pupils. The concert was part of 30 concerts in 30 days organised by Jenny in order to raise money for 'The Children's Trust'. The day was a huge success and left the children inspired to write their own poetry!
