KSJ celebrates World Book Day

On Thursday 4th March, 2010, the children at Katherine Semar Junior School will be joining children from all around the world in celebrating ‘World Book Day’. The day provides an opportunity for children to celebrate their love of reading and of books.

During the day, the children within each year group will be involved in a number of exciting activities based around a book chosen by their teachers. The children will be asked to design a hat or mask at home before the day to represent an aspect of that particular story – this might be a character or a setting. The book and ideas for the hat or mask will be discussed in more detail within individual year groups. There will be a prize awarded to the most imaginative hat or mask entry in each class.

On ‘World Book Day’, your child is also encouraged to bring in a book from home or the library that they particularly enjoy reading. During the day your child will have the opportunity to enjoy reading their book during a ‘Drop Everything and Read’ (DEAR!) session! The staff will be joining in too!

As a final celebration of the importance of reading, your child will be presented with a £1.00 book token which can be used at participating book stores. The token can be used to purchase one of the specially produced £1.00 ‘World Book Day’ books or as a discount voucher against a full priced book.

We are sure that you will agree that reading is something to celebrate and thank you in advance for supporting your child’s involvement in ‘World Book Day’.
