On Tuesday 17th June, Years 4 and 5 took part in Indian Drumming workshops led by Andrew Poonian. This complemented the Year 4's study of Indian culture this year, the same topic that the current Year 5s also studied last year. With authentic Indian 'Dholak' and 'Tabla' drums, the pupils practiced playing techniques as well as ways of composing rhythms using the traditional method where different words represent the different sounds that can be made by the drums. Saying the words in different patterns leads to the drums being played with the different rhythms. Andrew was impressed with all the pupils' enthusiasm and ability and the rest of the school could also share in the enjoyment as the sounds of the drums echoed through the class rooms!
