Junior School Dance Flash Mob!

On Monday the Juniors surprised the Infants with a dance flash mob. We all liked joining them on the playground!

Reading Award Assembly

We held our Reading Award assembly this week celebrating children who have gained their bronze, silver and gold summer reading challenge certificates (Y3/4 and Y5/6), and the children who achieved 3 gold certificates this year were rewarded with a book token.

Margaret Jude Award - Summer Term

This term the Margaret Jude Award for writing was given to Sam from Year 2 Polar Bear Class. Well done Sam!

Year 3 Visit to Walton-On-The-Naze

Year 3 had a wonderful sunny day at Walton-on-the-Naze to land their Rocks topic. They undertook fieldwork, spotting human and physical geography features, learnt about coastal erosion and sea defences and also enjoyed studying the different layers of rock and soils in the cliffs - everyone found at least one fossil, and a couple of children even found fossilised shark teeth.

Year 6 Leavers' Production

Year 6’s at Katherine Semar enjoying an end of school production, Rock Bottom. Set in the Stone Age, we have had a lot of fun with the songs, groovy dances and the joke-a-minute plot.

EY Visit Southend Aquarium

We had a wonderful time at the aquarium. The Early Years children thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the underwater animals and also exploring Dinosaur World. We also saw meerkats, tortoises and mongooses. A firm favourite was playing on the beach after the aquarium.

Year 5 Trip to Epping Forest

Year 5 had an exciting trip to Epping Forest to land our Rivers topic. We started the day revising the water cycle before learning some geology about permeable and impermeable rocks. We took soil samples from different areas of the forest to see how this affected the ways rainfall is absorbed into the ground. This helped us to understand one of the possible ways a river can begin. In the afternoon, we investigated different sites along the river, identifying river features and measuring the width and depth of the river, flow rate as well as looking at the rocks and pebbles found on the river bed. This consolidated the children's learning in class on how rivers change from source to mouth.

Year 2 Visit Wicken Fen

Year 2 had such a wonderful day at Wicken Fen. We took part in pond dipping, bug hunting and connected to the wild.

Year 5 General Knowledge Quiz

Our Year 5 quiz team had a lovely afternoon with other local Schools in the Uttlesford general knowledge quiz. Our team put up a very impressive performance and came second overall. We were particularly strong on the history and art rounds - well done team!

Year 3 & 4 Visit from Author, Joanna Nadin

Year 3 and 4 enjoyed a visit from rather fabulous author, Joanna Nadin. Joanna has published 98 books, the vast majority of which are for children and the children enjoyed hearing her read an extract from one of The Worst Class in the World series.

Father's Day Visits

This week we have been welcoming dads and grandads into school to celebrate Father's Day. The children all had a fantastic time showing their visitors some of their learning, their classrooms and sharing some exciting activities with them too!

Year 3 Topic Launch

This week, Year 3s started their topic, Coasts. They learnt about how much coastline there is around our wonderful country and how varied it is. They then worked in groups to make some promotional posters for coastal holiday destinations. Please watch our videos!

Year 3 Trip to West Stow

Year 3 landed their final history topic of the year with a trip to West Stow Anglo-Saxon village in Suffolk, where they explored artefacts from the various archaeologic digs and explored the homes built as part of the experimental archaeology discovering how Anglo-Saxons may have lived.
