Cream of the County - Triumph in County Finals

On Wednesday 25th May, Katherine Semar Juniors travelled to Basildon Sporting Village to compete in the County High 5s netball tournament. The team were representing Uttlesford and were keen to retain their trophy. They were placed in Pool A with six other schools with the aim of coming in the top two to qualify for the finals. The team finished second in their group after the following results:

The Cathedral School 4 Katherine Semar Juniors 8
Katherine Semar Juniors 9 Kingswood Juniors 2
Katherine Semar Juniors 9 Doddinghurst 3
Katherine Semar Juniors 9 Alton Park 0
Temple Sutton 9 Katherine Semar Juniors 2
Churchgate 2 Katherine Semar Juniors 8

The team made a fantastic start and won five games comfortably. A good start was important and Jade's shooting set the team off on the right foot. The only setback was a 9-2 loss to Temple Sutton. However, the team reacted positively to this by winning their last game meaning they finished second in their group.

In the semi-finals, Katherine Semar Juniors faced physically imposing opponents Kennington. Nevertheless, the team played in a style which negated the oppositions height advantage and moved the ball quickly around them. This match finished 8-5 with Olivia putting the game out of sight with some clinical finishing.

This win meant that the team had reached the final and their opponents...Temple Sutton. Although they had lost to them heavily, the team were positive and started fantastically. Bella and Mateusz were excellent in defence and excellent finishing from Ruby meant they went into half-time 4-2 up. A nervous six minutes followed but more excellent defending from Julia and Chloe and pressure from Gaelle restricted the opposition's chances to score. The game ended 9-5 and the team were rightly crowned County champions.

I would like to offer a huge thanks to Mrs Diamond for her transportation and support. Also, I would like to thank and congratulate Mr Haralambous and both Dan and Adam Nicholls. They have worked extremely hard with the team and to be County champions for two years is a fantastic achievement.
