Year 6 had the most fantastic day in France on Wednesday. The weather was beautiful and really allowed the old town of Boulogne-sur-Mer to be showcased. Although it was an early start for us all, the teachers were really impressed by the behaviour of your children and, as usual, we received many compliments from the people we met.
The children enjoyed buying a range of wonderful fresh and local produce from the market in Calais and we were impressed with their confidence when speaking French. We had a super lunch in Flunch, followed by a guided tour of the old town of Boulogne. The dome in the Cathedral was a remarkable sight and left many of us speechless, as well as providing a cool resting spot for few moments. Many of the children expressed a desire to return and explore the crypt with their own families.
Our day culminated in an entertaining visit to a traditional French bakery where we learnt how bread and croissants are made. I shall leave the children to tell you more - I'm not sure that I can capture the spirit of the baker in writing!
Although slightly delayed in our return (and feeling a little jaded today), a great day was had by all. The children were immersed in the French culture and language all day and we hope that they enjoyed it as much as we did.
