On Friday 13th September Year 5 walked down to Audley End House. Dressed in Victorian clothes, the children were very excited.
Part of the day was spent learning about the lives of the servants “below stairs”. The children visited the scullery, kitchens and laundry rooms. They also participated in activities that Victorian maids and footmen would be expected to do.
In Audley End House, the children were lucky enough to be taken up to the very top floor of the house (where the public do not generally get to visit) to see the servants quarters. This was an excellent opportunity for the children to compare the lifestyles of rich Victorians with the lifestyles of the poor. The children also enjoyed a walk around the kitchen gardens and stable yard of the house.
Exhausted but happy, the children made the long walk back to school. A wonderful day was had by all. Thank you to Mrs Moy, Mrs Howett, Mrs Start, Mrs Denyer, Mr Seymour and Mrs Jennings who came along on our class trip to help us.
