Reading With Dogs November 2013

The children really look forward to reading with our special visitor, Sam.  Sam is a PAT (Pets As Therapy) dog who comes into school to be with the children when they read.

The Reading 2 Dogs intervention is organised through the Pets As Therapy charity.  The Pets As Therapy charity was founded in 1983.  It is a community based charity providing therapeutic visits to hospitals, hospices, nursing and care homes, special needs schools and a variety of other establishments from volunteers with their pet dogs and cats.

The Charity's Read2Dogs programme helps children in classroom settings improve their reading ability by helping to increase their confidence and enjoyment of reading.

This is the second year that we have been able to have Sam in our school to read with the children in Year 2 and we have noticed an increase in the children's enjoyment of reading and confidence.
