Olympics & International Week June 2012

As part of our International Week, Katherine Semar Infant School joined forces with Katherine Semar Junior School to take part in a Mini Olympic Games. On Wednesday 27th June, children from Early Years through to Year Six were put into 16 teams, each representing a different country. The teams developed their own identity through making shakers, flags and team building games. Even a Chinese dragon put in an appearance! On Thursday, the teams competed against each other in four Olympic rings. There were running races, javelin/discus throwing and hurdle jumping, to name a few events. Every child received a gold medal and the winning athletes from Team Portugal, were also given a commemorative certificate. There was a fantastic atmosphere throughout and the day was summed up perfectly when Daisy Burgess (6) was heard saying, “I never expected today to be so much fun!”
