Modern Foreign Language Day for Year 4 pupils

On Friday 16 March, KSJ school was delighted to welcome 11 students from SWCHS to lead our MFL morning. These Y11 students have completed their French GCSE early and are spending this year extending their linguistic knowledge and speaking skills.

Mme Rowden has close links with SWCHS and, together with MFL teachers Miss Holt and Ms Connor, the students produced some fun games, puzzles, quizzes and races for us, all on the theme of Les Jeux Olympiques.

After a whole school assembly during which we sang our Olympic song, Y4 children got busy with the students and enjoyed moving between the different activities and practising their language.

After break we welcomed Miss Martin-Smith, a Latin specialist and Gifted and Talented Coordinator at SWCHS, and Miss Barker, a Greek specialist, to spend an amazing hour with our Grand Prix Language Group. All these children found it really interesting and were fascinated to spot word derivations in these ancient languages and to work out some Greek lettering for themselves.

We all really enjoyed this morning and thank the students and their teachers for the hard work they put in to making their visit such fun and so informative.

'On the 16th of March 2012, Year 4 and the Grand Prix group had a fun day with the Year 11s from Saffron Walden County High School. First, the whole school had an assemblu, the Year 11s introduced themselves in French. After that, we sang a song in French called 'Les jeux Olympiques'.

Year 4 stayed in the hall and all the rest (except the Grand Prix group) walked out. The Grand Prix group went with three girls. We play 'Simon Says' in French. Luhan won the first game. However, I won the second game. We both got a chocoloate bar. Then, we moved on. We played a flash game and after about twenty minites, we moved on a played a colour game.

After break, the Grand Prix group learnt some Latin. We learnt it with Miss Martin-Smith. We had a piece of paper and had to guess what it says in Latin. After that, Mrs. Baker taught us some Greek. We learnt the names of the gods. I had a really beautiful day just like the others!'
