Year 5 have embarked on a 6 week mission to Train like an Astronaut. On Friday 27th January 2012 they visited MMCC, where they joined children from other local primary schools to launch a Science and Fitness topic.
There were bangs galore in the main hall as gunpowder was detonated and a rocket engine fired up. The children then took part in a series of missions: making their own rockets and launching them; studying hydration; competing in their teams in circuit training, using exercise bikes and practising ball skills.
The children also learnt about healthy bones, taking part in an experiment, building their own bone structures and testing them.
In school, over the next few weeks, the Year 5s will take part in a series of challenges, and then will return to MMCC for the closing events, including a live link up with the International Space Station.
