Sixteen children from Katherine Semar took part in the ‘Jiangsu International Children’s Painting Contest 2017’, which is organised by Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Provincial Government and Jiangsu Broadcasting Cooperation, with support from Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education and Jiangsu Art Association in China.
The theme of the contest is ‘Painting Your Hometown, Dreaming Your Future’. The purpose of this contest is to highlight the friendship between the young generation of Jiangsu and its sister regions in over 20 countries around the world including Essex, by introducing their hometown through painting, the universal language of art. As we have a partner school in Jiangsu, we thought it would be a good idea to enter the competition.
The children walked down to the oldest part of town and took hundreds of photographs to inspire them. They then selected a photograph to paint.
Five of our paintings will be entered into the competition and the 10 best paintings from Essex will be selected to exhibit in Jiangsu and made into an album (alongside winning paintings from Jiangsu China and 20 other countries), and will be awarded with a prize.
We hope you like the paintings.
