Roy from Essex Fire Service visited Year 2 today and talked to the children about how the Fire Service came into being since the Great Fire of London, and how it has changed over the years. We learned that fire fighters have more powerful water hoses which are linked to fire hydrants in our streets and that they still use fire hooks to make sure buildings are safe after fires have been put out.
We learned that fire fighters wear special clothes and equipment to protect them from fire and smoke and we also learned about the ‘out’ rules:
Call the fire service out.
Roy was really impressed with how much information the children had learnt about the Great Fire of London too!
